In the “Spirit of Good Will”: Aeronet Worldwide Provides Logistics for Baton Rouge Relief Book Drive

When Baton Rouge was hit with severe flooding recently, one student stepped up to help her fellow students by starting a relief effort for local schools, and Aeronet Worldwide is proud to say that we provided a small degree of help. Juliana Oyen decided to organize a week-long book drive to restore preciously-needed reading material to classrooms and school libraries that lost everything to the flooding. Ms. Oyen had help from leading mid-sized engineering, procuring, and construction firm Burrow Global, with Aeronet Worldwide providing logistics solutions as well.

Although there had been plenty of outreach in regards to providing necessities such as food and clothing, as well as furniture, many of the schools affected by the flooding had not been able to replace the books they needed once classes resumed. That’s when Juliana Oyen, a sophomore at St. Pius X High School, undertook the effort to restore the lost books to schools in the Baton Rouge area through a week-long book drive.

When it came to organizing the book drive, Ms. Oyen worked through the American Heritage Girls Troop, of which she is a member, with assistance from The Office for Campus Ministry at her school. For the logistical end, Burrow Global (through their client ABB Inc., with which Ms. Oyen has a family connection) offered their services to help ship the books, by way of partnering up with Aeronet Worldwide. With over 30 years in freight forwarding, Aeronet has experience in shipping much-needed supplies in similar relief efforts.

Thanks to the efforts organized by Ms. Oyen, and supplemented by the assistance of Burrow Global and Aeronet, nearly two tons of books were collected and delivered to schools in Baton Rouge. Ms. Oyen received a well-deserved Bronze President’s Volunteer Service Award, and schools throughout the area were able to resume with their lessons thanks to the replacement books. Aeronet Worldwide recognizes the great effort undertaken by Ms. Oyen, and was proud to be a part of it. We look forward to a continued relationship with Burrow Global, as well as future charitable endeavors that are driven by a “Spirit of Good Will” to those in need.
