Aeronet Does Its Part in Project Apollo and the Fight against COVID-19

Acting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for automakers to produce medical equipment to help fight COVID-19, Ford Motor Company joined the partnership code-named “Project Apollo.” This cooperative effort brought together U.S. companies from different sectors to produce ventilators, respirators, and other vital personal protective equipment.

Aeronet Worldwide was honored to be approved as a trusted shipping partner by Ford. Aeronet provided overnight air services to transport face shields, so that they would be at their destinations first thing in the morning. Shipments originated in Detroit, and were distributed, around the country, direct to hospitals and makeshift COVID-19 response centers. Aeronet has also handled same-day orders for respirator parts from Seattle to Kokomo, Indiana.

Named in honor of the Apollo 13 crew – who, in 1970, were forced to improvise in order to fix a failed oxygen tank, thereby saving their lives – this collaboration matches the best in American manufacturing for a common cause. In addition to face shields, Ford combined forces with General Electric’s healthcare unit and 3M to produce ventilators.

Aeronet has also helped other automotive companies engaged in alternative manufacturing for COVID-19 care: air and ground services for the ventilator production partnership between General Motors and Ventec; and full truckload (FTL) orders for surgical garments, made by air bag manufacturer Joyson Safety Systems, from South Texas to Detroit Medical Center and The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
